Vintage Framed Martinet Birds. Hummingbirds and Friends Set - Set of 6

Set of six framed giclee reproductions of mostly hummingbirds. I think the one blue bird above the green bird with the split tail is a tropical bird of Brazil. All prints have the bird names in French at the bottom if you would like to do further study. The original prints we reproduced these from were hand colored copperplate engraving and our quality is so good they look like the real thing.

Image History: The giclee prints we make are from Francois Martinet's work with Buffon Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. The work was published between 1765 and 1780 by Edme Louis Daubenton in France. Each plate features a delicate yellow border, which many believe led to the development of French matting.
Martinet was a prominent ornithological artist of the 1700s. He work closely with Count Georges-Louis Leclerc du Buffon on Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. The work is considered one of the most influential bird books of all time.

Framing: Framed in a Italian wood moulding that is hand finished leaving subtle differences on each frame so frame distressing will vary. The frame is .75 or 3/4 inches wide. The backer board is also acid free. We use framers grade acrylic for the glazing making the frames lighter for easy hanging and safer for shipping. Professional hanging wire is on the back with a dust cover.

Print: The giclee prints are made in USA and we only use the very best acid free cotton rag paper and archival inks to insure the prints looks its very best. The ink has a light fastness of over 160 years so it promises not to fade in our lifetime.

Size of each frame is about 13 inches wide and 17 inches tall.
