Olof Rudbeck the Younger or Olaus Rudbeckius junior was born 1660 and lived until 1740. Rudbeck was the professor of medicine at Uppsala University. In 1695 he traveled to Lapland to join an expedition commissioned by the King. Here in the Northern part of of Sweden he was to watercolor all the birds of this land. As his father before him he was a student of nature and illustrated that which he saw. The illustrations he made on this trip are what see you below. The illustrations were saved in a portfolio that he carried with him and many of the papers he used were so large they had to be folded to fit. Many of these fold lines are visible on this work. CFA Editions has added additional birds to the series so that popular American birds can now join this amazing work by Rudbeck.
